The Club was formed in 1932 by "old boys"of the former Wheelwright Grammar School in Dewsbury. They joined the West Riding Old Boys League, the forerunner of todays Yorkshire Old Boys League.
Wheelwright AFC are one of the longest established football clubs in the Heavy Woollen area(the Towns between Huddersfield & Leeds). In the fifties a Reserve team was added and in 1975 a Third X1, increasing even further in 1982 with the introduction of a Fourth X1.
This year the Club will once again have three teams competing in the League plus a Veterans X1 who will travel anywhere - to date they have displayed their skills and friendship with fixtures in London, Lytham StAnnes , Hull , Sheffield, Ipswich and Dublin as well as hosting teams from Czech Republic, Buckinghamshire, East & West Coasts.
The highlight of each season is the Clubs annual tour to Holland, Belgium and France. This has seen International football for our players and enabled us to make many new friends throughout Europe.
Player loyalty is exceptional and recognised with awards after 10 and 20 years service. A special 30 year award has been earned by several Wheelwright legends.
The Clubs proud reputation is further enhanced by providing The Yorkshire Old Boys League, currently in its 81st season, with record appearance and goal scorers from its present members.
We hope you enjoy looking through our site and welcome any contributions you may wish to make through the guestbook or E mail addresses displayed.
